Bradbury House

Bradbury House is a stunning example of a self-catering, accessible holiday home done right, with three bedrooms and a hot tub, set on the side of Trevassack Lake in south west Cornwall. Ideally located for a family watersports holiday, the staff welcome all abilities and are specially equipped to help those with additional needs. The house, too, welcomes all with state-of-the-art equipment available to make things more manageable if you have limited mobility or high dependency needs.

Walkthrough

The waterside setting will distract you on arrival but take a moment to look up at the modern timber-clad exterior as you park up alongside Bradbury House. There’s plenty of time to enjoy the view later, but first cross the level, covered threshold into the ultimate in accessible holiday homes and appreciate the large, open plan living space with its vaulted ceiling and under-floor heating. Big picture windows fill the space with light as the room opens up in front of you to the view of the lake where you’ll find a low hot tub seated in the huge deck overlooking the lake.

The living-room is spacious and modern, the sitting-area maximises the views and the kitchen-area is not only fully equipped but variable height for your self-catering stay. There’s also a handy laundry/store room by the front door, ideal for soggy swimwear. Once you’ve made that welcome arrival cuppa and drank in the view, it’s time to choose your bedroom.

Bedroom 1 is a large room with an electric profiling bed and single bed plus its own en suite wet-room. This room is fully accessible, with a top-of-the-range electric ceiling hoist is provided to allow easy movement from bed to bathroom, plus a door to Bedroom 2.

Next door, Bedroom 2 has comfortable twin beds that can be set up as a luxurious 6ft double if you prefer, but is perfectly placed to act as a ‘carer’s room’ if you need someone close by in the night. Bedroom 3 can be found on the other side of the living-room (with that rather lovely view), again with a ‘zip and link’ bed that can be a twin or a large double. It is next to the separate additional wet-room.

You’ll have no trouble moving around this house, whichever room you choose, thanks to the architect’s clever design that features extra wide doorways and plenty of space around furniture.

Setting

Bradbury House is uniquely set right on the water’s edge for a duck’s eye view of all the action. Separated from the rest of the site by a bridge over the stream, Bradbury House has its own corner of the quarry, with enough room for two large cars. You’ll probably spend most of your day taking part in paddlesports and fun events, or even an open water swim on Tuesday and Sunday mornings. In this holiday home you can almost climb out of the window and into the water-based action.

Wave to the committed water lovers as you take your morning coffee on the deck and watch all the action of the lake from the comfort of your hot tub before getting in your wetsuit and joining in the merriment. As the sun sets on a fun-filled day, take a time out with an al fresco supper as the water stops rippling and starts lapping gently on your shore. Look over at the Learning Centre and reminisce on the day’s events whilst looking forward to what tomorrow will bring. Get everyone to their comfortable beds before they fall asleep standing thanks to all that fresh Cornish air.

History

Bradbury House is named after Mr Bertram Walter Bradbury, a philanthropist who set up a trust fund in the 60s to aid charities for the elderly and disadvantaged between his two homelands of Hong Kong and the UK. He left a considerable fortune to the foundation which has historically helped to fund charity work that falls within the scope of The Salvation Army, The Red Cross, the elderly and the blind. Today, Mr Bradbury’s name has been given to this house in recognition of their funding that allowed it to be built. As a result, we hope many generations of families can make full use of our incredible, accessible and inclusive, facilities for years to come.
